A survey focussed on web-data is not enough because of the following aspects:
- Availability: many courses are not available on-line or are password-protected
(usually within campus intranets).
- Temporal aspects: most websites are «snapshot»-like in the sense that they only show today's data.
Elective courses may «exist» but be inactive in the current academic year.
- WWW dynamics:
URLs are very volatile and change all the time.
Therefore,
referential integrity can hardly be maintained.
(Will the WWW ever be considered an information system as we
understand the concept nowadays?)
